congestion coupled with reckless driving

13:10 Nov 19 2012 corner of Roxborough Street West and Avenue Road

Description
Cars use Roxborough Street travelling west to transition from Yonge street, west to Dupont Street. At any time of day but particularly during heavy travel times cars nudge out into the paths of vehicles heading north on Avenue Road and cross three lanes of traffic to make a left hand turn at Dupont. The stop light at Avenue and Dupont stops traffic heading north and drivers come out of Roxborough and block flow, relying on courteous drivers to permit their passage. More aggressive drivers often burst out of Roxborough and there can be two cars simultaneously turning right into north bound Avenue Road traffic attempting to cross the lanes. Pedestrian traffic adds additional risk to the intersection. Accidents are common

Install a traffic light at Chicora, timed with the Dupont light to stop northbound traffic south of the Roxborough intersection in order to create space for westbound cars on Roxborough to flow into the left-turn lane onto Dupont or to turn north. Also, it was foolish to prevent right-turn westbound traffic on Yonge from turning on Belmont. This would likely disperse some of the traffic on Roxborough, too.
